Feminism
Feminism is a very important subject, more for some people than others. Many women feel that men think they are more superior, these women do not like this and wish that men and women were both equal. These women are called feminist.
Due to this issue women tried to fight for their equality. The fisrt event of this was called 'first wave feminism'. This happened during the 19th and 20th century. This event of first wave feminism started because women wanted the right to vote. To do this a group was formed called the suffragettes.
The suffragettes went to extream circumstances to make their voices heard. After and during this time the first world war was happening from 1914 to 1918. This allowed women to start working. However this was only in what they classed as feminin jobs such as nursing. Then during the second world war from 1939 to 1948 women were able to do jobs that were also classed as masculin jobs. This meant that from 1948 women were able to do any job they wished. This was the end of first wave feminism.
Second wave feminism then happened in the 1960s and 1970s. The secondwave feminism occured because of the invention of the contraceptive pill. This prevented womens pregnancy to a certain extent, meaning that women could chose when to have children and how many children they wanted. This allowed women to have the careers they wished to have because all though women could have any job they wished, they still had to look after the children. As a result of this women could not persu the job they wished as they would not have the time to put into the job while having to look after the family. Additionally this was proven when Margret Thatcher became the first and only female primister.
Finally, there are still isues today where women feel the are not equal to men. This is shown with the fact that there are not as many women in higher positions as men. Additionally this is shown by no other woman becoming a priminister. However, nowerdays there are also issues where men are not treated equally to women meaning that the men can sometimes be treated worse than women.
